Product FAQs
Product Guidelines & FAQs
Will my dog get salmonella from eating raw chicken?
No—salmonella can be avoided by using human-grade meat and following basic hygiene. Wash hands, surfaces, and utensils before and after feeding, and handle raw food as you would your own meat (thaw in the fridge, not in direct sunlight).
Are your products suitable for all breeds?
Yes! Our complete meals are suitable for dogs and cats of all breeds, ages, and life stages. Meals are packed with protein, making them ideal even for kittens and senior pets.
Do your products contain any additives or preservatives?
No—both PupChef and Primal Raw meals are free from artificial additives, preservatives, and flavors.
Do your meals contain fruits, vegetables, or grains?
-
Some PupChef products do contain fruits, vegetables, or grains, as indicated on the packaging.
-
All Raw Rolls (Primal Raw) do not contain any fruit, vegetable, or grain fillers.
How do I store the products?
Meals are delivered frozen. Keep them in the freezer until ready to feed.
Do I need to cook the meals?
-
Raw Rolls: No cooking needed! Simply thaw & feed raw—cooking will destroy nutrients.
-
PupChef products: Some contain heating instructions—please follow the instructions on the packaging if cooking is recommended.
Are these meals complete?
-
Original Rolls: Complete meals, ready to serve.
-
Value Lines / other meals: Complementary meals; additional add-ons may be needed.
Will raw feeding make my dog aggressive or “blood-thirsty”?
No! Some dogs may show resource guarding, which is normal behaviour and not unique to raw diets.
My dog has skin allergies—will raw food help?
Many pets see significant improvement after switching to raw. Some have even been able to come off cortisone completely!
My dog is older—is it safe to switch to raw?
Yes! It’s never too late to make healthy changes for a better quality of life.
At what age can I start feeding my puppy raw?
Puppies can start as early as 3 weeks old. Early raw feeding can reduce the risk of skin allergies and digestive issues later in life. Puppies need higher calorie and protein meals.
Do I need to wean my dog off kibble?
Most dogs can switch immediately, but a 4-day gradual transition is recommended. Sensitive dogs may need a longer adjustment period. (Please see 'Making the switch' for guidelines)
How often should I deworm my dog after switching?
Deworming is recommended every 6 months. Some raw feeders give treats with fur (rabbit ears, paws, or skins), which act as a natural intestinal cleaner.
My dog’s stools are smaller—is this normal?
Yes! Pets absorb more nutrients from raw meals, so stools are smaller, less frequent, and healthier.
Is raw food safe for pregnant or lactating dogs?
Yes! Nutrients from raw meals support both mother and puppies during gestation and lactation, helping maintain condition and aiding recovery after whelping.
